How To Count Coins Using the Touch Math Method

How to count coins using the Touch Math method:

  1. Refer to the photo of coins marked with “touch points.”
  2. Review. Each touch point on coins is counted by 5.
  3. The quarter has 5 touch points and should be counted starting at the upper left, then upper right, then lower left, lower right, then center. “5, 10, 15, 20, 25.”
  4. The dime has 2 touch points and should be counted starting at the top then the bottom. “5, 10.”
  5. The nickel has one touch point and should be counted by touching only the center. “5.”
  6. The penny should be counted last. The penny has a line under it.  Add on pennies at the end.
